Some folks fantasise about getting locked in an Ikea. Us, we imagine ourselves entangled in a steamy overnighter at Bed, Bath and Beyond, only hornier because there’s a little light* (okay, lots of) BDSM at play. Think of all those racks and attachment points just waiting to be explored. It’s enough to get you all hot and bothered. No wonder so many people up-and-leave in a tizzy!
You don’t need Big Furniture™ to help you get your f*ck on. All you need is a little *imagination* – and sure, resources certainly help. And whether you live in a shared space, solo, partnered or in a lap of luxury, we have a few pointers to help you dabble in dungeon delights on a shoestring.
Not all dungeons need to be dark, dank and chain-y.
I mean, have you seen the Los Angeles Pink Dungeon? While dark props certainly help, you can always bring that energy with you with all the right accessories. If you’re just getting into some light BDSM, we recommend starting small, with a humble flogger to see whether you and your partner enjoy it. Then you might consider upgrading or elevating your play with more serious whips and restraints. May we suggest a Warternberg wheel?
Restraint makes for better art.
Or so they say. Dim the lights and choreograph cosmically creative scenes with some accessories like rope, harnesses, spreader bars and cuffs. There are some really handy under-the-mattress and over-the-door solutions that make any room, suddenly sexier. Confine your partner to one room or one section of one room and tease until they simply cannot stand it any further. Keep them blindfolded. Play some ambient atmospheric sounds to really immerse them in the moment. This is your Bed, Bath and Beyond, remember!? Extra points for hallways or study nooks, those spaces are in dire need of kinky disruption.
Mirrors and tiles and towel-rods oh my.
There’s something poetic about being railed over a towel rail, y’know? While folks are au fait with shower play, how many of us simply enjoy a night on the tiles (and not in the way you’d expect)? Consider this your cue for a wet day timetable, where the goal is to get soaked and stay that way. Consider the scenarios you can create with mirrors, temperature play (steam versus cold tile), and how you can incorporate waterproof and water resistant pleasure toys. Of course, there can always be an element of restraint-play in this space, just make sure that you have a towel (or four) handy for when things get slippery.
Harness the moment
Sure, you might be thinking, “but this is my ordinary home office, what’s sexy about that?”. And the answer is, plenty my friend, if you just go with it. This whole concept relies on you fully committing to the scene and losing yourself to the moment.
