Lube or Lubricants

A good lubricant can make sex and masturbation more comfortable, pleasurable and simply feel better.

Our lube collection includes water based, silicone, hybrid, anal and speciality lubricants, as well as vaginal moisturisers and lube applicators. Whether the priority is sensitive skin, long lasting glide, anal play, sex toys, condoms or managing vaginal dryness, there’s a lubricant designed for the job.

At Passionfruit, we’re particularly fussy about lube. We choose formulas for their feel, ingredients, body compatibility and intended use, with trusted options from Sliquid, Überlube, Pjur, YES and more.

Choosing the Right Personal Lubricant

Lubricant isn’t just an optional extra. The right lube can reduce friction, improve comfort and make everything from masturbation and penetrative sex to sex toy use and anal play feel considerably better.

The important bit is choosing the right formula for the body, activity and toys involved.

Water Based Lube

Water based lubricant is the most versatile choice and a great place to start. It can generally be used with condoms and all types of sex toys, including silicone toys, and washes away easily with water.

Different formulas vary enormously in texture and staying power. Some are light and silky, while thicker water based gels can provide more cushioning for anal play, vaginal dryness or whenever additional lubrication is helpful.

Silicone Lube

Silicone lubricant provides exceptionally long lasting glide and doesn’t dry out as quickly as water based formulas. A small amount can go a surprisingly long way, making silicone lube particularly useful for longer sessions, anal play, massage and sex in water.

Silicone lubricant is generally compatible with latex condoms, but may not be suitable for silicone sex toys, so check the toy manufacturer’s instructions first.

Hybrid Lube

Hybrid lubricants combine water based ingredients with a smaller amount of silicone, giving some of the easy clean up of a water based lube with extra slip and staying power.

Compatibility with silicone toys can vary between formulas, so it’s worth checking the individual product information.

Lube for Anal Sex

The anus doesn’t produce its own lubrication, so using plenty of lube is particularly important for anal play. Thicker water based formulas and long lasting silicone lubricants are popular choices because they provide plenty of glide and help reduce uncomfortable friction.

Lube applicators can also be useful for getting lubricant exactly where it’s needed.

Lube for Vaginal Dryness and Sensitive Bodies

Vaginal dryness can occur for many reasons, including menopause, hormonal changes, medications and some health conditions. A well chosen lubricant can make sexual activity considerably more comfortable, while vaginal moisturisers are designed for more regular use to help manage ongoing dryness.

For sensitive vulval or vaginal tissue, simpler formulations without unnecessary fragrances, flavours or warming ingredients are often preferable.

Which Lube Should I Choose?

There isn’t one lubricant that suits every body or every kind of sex. Consider what it will be used with, how much staying power is needed and whether there are any sensitivities to take into account.

Water based: versatile, easy to clean and compatible with most toys and condoms.

Silicone: exceptionally slippery and long lasting, but check compatibility with silicone toys.

Hybrid: combines the qualities of water and silicone based formulas.

Anal lube: usually thicker or longer lasting to provide additional glide and cushioning.

Vaginal moisturisers: designed to help manage ongoing vaginal dryness rather than simply providing lubrication during sexual activity.
