External Vibrators
External vibrators are some of our most-loved toys, and for good reason. Designed to stimulate the clitoris and other sensitive areas without penetrating the body, they come in an enormous variety of shapes, sizes and sensations.
Use them solo, with a partner, during penetrative sex or simply wherever vibration feels good. For many people with vulvas, clitoral stimulation is an important part of reaching orgasm, and an external vibrator can make it easy to add more targeted stimulation.
From discreet bullets and compact travel companions to powerful wands and beautifully designed clitoral vibrators, we choose ours for quality, ergonomics, body-safe materials and, most importantly, how good they feel.
Choosing an External Vibrator
External vibrators come in more shapes and styles than almost any other type of sex toy. The easiest way to narrow the field is to think about the kind of stimulation that feels appealing: broad or pinpoint, gentle or powerful, direct vibration or air pulse stimulation.
Clitoral Vibrators
Clitoral vibrators are designed specifically for external stimulation around the clitoris and vulva. Shapes vary enormously, from small sculpted toys that provide focused contact to larger designs that stimulate a broader area.
For bodies that find very direct clitoral stimulation intense, vibration can also be used around the clitoris rather than directly over it.
Bullet Vibrators
Small, discreet and wonderfully versatile, bullet vibrators provide focused external vibration without a lot of toy getting in the way. They can be easy to manoeuvre during solo or partnered play and are a popular first vibrator, although there's certainly nothing particularly beginner only about them.
Wand Vibrators
Wands have larger heads that spread vibration over a broader area. They're known for power, but the real appeal for many bodies is the deep, diffuse stimulation and long handle.
That handle can also make some wands easier to position for people with reduced reach, grip strength or mobility.
Suction and Air Pulse Vibrators
Often called suction vibrators, many of these toys actually use pulses of air or changes in pressure around the clitoris rather than literal suction. This creates a very different sensation from a vibrator sitting directly against the body.
Some combine air pulse technology with conventional vibration, providing both sensations in one toy.
Buzzy or Rumbly?
Motor quality matters. Buzzy vibration tends to feel lighter and more concentrated at the surface, while deeper, rumbly vibration travels more readily through the surrounding tissue.
Power isn't everything either. A good range of genuinely usable settings, including a low starting speed, can be far more important than having dozens of vibration patterns.
External Vibrators and Accessibility
Shape, weight, button placement and how a toy needs to be held can be just as important as vibration strength. Long handles, larger controls, remote or app operation and toys that don't require constant precise positioning can make external stimulation considerably easier for some bodies.
Finding the Right External Vibrator
There is no universally best vibrator. Anatomy, sensitivity, dexterity and personal preference all influence which shape and sensation works well.
At Passionfruit, we've been helping people choose vibrators since 1998. We look beyond the number of speeds on the box and consider motor quality, ergonomics, materials, intensity range and how the toy actually works with a body.
Because the best vibrator isn't necessarily the most powerful one.
