Good lingerie isn’t about dressing a body into somebody else’s idea of sexy. It can be dramatic, delicate, minimal, playful, beautifully constructed or barely there at all.
The useful starting point is what feels good to wear. That might mean soft mesh and stretch, intricate embroidery, a structured bra, a bodysuit that becomes part of an outfit, or something gloriously impractical worn purely because it looks fabulous.
Bras, Bralettes and Lingerie Sets
Bras and bralettes range from soft, unstructured mesh to more architectural pieces with underwires, straps and carefully constructed panels.
Matching sets create a complete look, but there’s absolutely no requirement for tops and bottoms to match. Mixing pieces, textures and designers can be considerably more interesting.
Bodysuits and Lingerie Dresses
Bodysuits can sit somewhere between lingerie and clothing. Sheer mesh, lace, embroidery, cut outs and strapping can make them beautiful on their own, layered under clothes or worn as part of an outfit.

Sheer Lingerie
Mesh, lace and transparent fabrics play with what is covered and what isn’t. Some pieces use fine stretch mesh that moves easily with the body, while others combine sheer panels with embroidery, straps or more structured fabrics.
How a fabric feels against the skin matters as much as how it photographs.
Harness Lingerie and Statement Pieces
Harness inspired lingerie uses straps, hardware and body framing to create more structured silhouettes. Some pieces borrow directly from bondage design, while others simply use harness details as part of the garment.
These can be worn as lingerie, layered over clothing or incorporated into a completely different look.
Finding the Right Fit
Lingerie sizing varies considerably between brands, particularly across international designers. A familiar size in one label may fit quite differently in another.
Rather than treating the number or letter on the tag as a verdict on a body, check the measurements and individual brand sizing wherever possible. Adjustable straps, stretch fabrics and flexible sizing can also make a considerable difference to fit.
