New to Anal? Start Here

Your first time doesn't have to be intimidating

Curious about anal play but not sure where to start? You're definitely not alone. Whether you're exploring solo, with a partner, or simply doing your research, taking the time to learn the basics can make all the difference to your experience.

One of the biggest myths about anal play is that it has to hurt. In reality, discomfort is usually a sign to slow down, use more lubricant or choose a smaller toy. Anal exploration should never feel rushed. Going at your own pace, listening to your body and choosing products designed for beginners can help you build confidence and discover what feels good.

This collection has been carefully curated by our certified sexologists to include everything we recommend for first-time anal play. You'll find slim, beginner-friendly butt plugs, plenty of water-based lubricant, toy cleaner and other essentials to help you get started comfortably and safely.

Remember, there's no "right" way to explore anal pleasure. Some people enjoy using a small plug, others prefer fingers or external stimulation, and some simply like learning about their body before trying anything at all. The goal isn't to achieve something - it's to explore with curiosity, confidence and good information.

Take your time, ask questions and enjoy discovering what works for you.

Anal Sex Beginner Checklist

✔️Choose a beginner-friendly toy. Start with a slim toy featuring a tapered tip and flared base.

Don't skip the lubricant. The anus doesn't self-lubricate, so generous amounts of lube are essential.

✔️Relax your body. A warm shower, deep breathing and plenty of foreplay can help you feel more comfortable. As you're gently inserting a finger, toy or body part, try bearing down slightly (the same motion as if you were passing a bowel movement). This naturally relaxes the external anal sphincter and can make insertion feel easier. Once the toy or body part is in place, you can relax those muscles again.

✔️Take your time. Anal play isn't a race. Pause, breathe and only continue if it feels good.

✔️Listen to your body. Discomfort is your cue to slow down, add more lubricant or try another day.

✔️Clean your toys afterwards. Wash them thoroughly with warm water and toy cleaner before storing.
