Chapter 1 - FOREPLAY: A strap-on workout warm up.

Chapter 2 - P.E. Class: Penetration education for better strap-on play.

Chapter 3 - Aftercare for strap-on play: A workout warm-down.

Grunting, thrusting and pumping it out – gym culture feels too horny to be left to the fitness enthusiasts, so we’ve swiped this setting for strap-on purposes instead.

The Passionfruit Rec Centre isn’t a ‘real’ place, it’s a state of mind: a destination for tips and recommendations that make strap-on play lighthearted, approachable and fun. This volume covers positions and playthings presented by Passionfruit educators and demonstrators Chanelle (she/her) and Fin (they/them), captured by the inimitable Alexis Desaulniers–Lea (she/her) @alexisdleaphotography.

Once you’ve got the blood pumping with our warm up piece , it’s time to think about where you want to take your strap-on workout.

Will you be penetrated, penetrate another, or both – simultaneously?!

This question will help determine the kind/s of toys and harnesses you need to get started.

Some strap-on dildos are made for sharing, like the Fun Factory Share Lite , Lovense Lapis , Strap-On-Me Double Dildo in both vibrating or non-vibrating variations. Offering features to stimulate both parties, these options usually come with multiple arms or motors so that the penetrating partner can receive pleasure while delivering it.

When looking for the right toy for your strap-on play, consider whether you want something soft or firm, phallic or more neutral, and whether vibration is a priority for you. This will help you refine your choices to either a vibrating dildo suitable for strap-on play, or more of a suction-based design which can be worn in a harness or be butt-against another dildo for double the pleasure.

Of course, your comfort and build (read: your bits) may also influence the kind of setup you use. Here are some scenarios and configurations to consider:

  • You may want to deliver penetrative pleasure while experiencing vibrations, without being penetrated. Toys like the vibrating Me2 Probe by Calexotics are a great option here because they support the penetrator without probing them.

  • You may also want to consider harnesses with a brief or boxer design to hold the toy closer to the body; preventing any unnecessary slips during your session.

  • You may be a penis-owner that wants to offer their partner the double penetration experience. In this case, you might be looking for a harness that offers more space for your own genitals as well as an additional toy or dildo, etc.

  • You may want to take part in the penetration and be penetrated anally during the same session. In which case, you might want to consider a harness with an open-back design for a seamless transition from position to position. Bonus points for a velcro fastener for quick costume changes.

  • You may experience sensitivity during harness play and want a buffer to protect your own pubic mound in the process. Cushions from brands like Sportsheets , can help bring you the relief you seek without interfering with the moment – or your aesthetic.

What kind/s of penetration will you be taking part in?

Oral, anal, and vaginal play all demand different things in terms of toys (type, size, functionality, density), lube (water-based, oil or silicone lubricant), and harnesses you may want to use.

If you are dabbling in backdoor action or pegging for the first time, you may want to consider more approachable strap-on dildos like the Tantus Silk or Strap-On-Me Dual Density Dildo (Various Sizes) . Both designs feature a suction cup, are harness compatible and can be used outside of strap on play for versatility. Of course, it goes without saying that plenty of lube and warm-up play is essential here.

Accessories

There’s something to be said about stacking toys and accessories for added pleasure and comfort. For example, if you experience painful penetration due to things like endo, adenomyosis, or simply have a shorter runway, adding buffers like Ohnuts are a great way to reduce any discomfort during penetrative sessions.

Have your cake and eat it too.

Who said sex needs to follow a certain order? Depending on your workout style – and your stamina – you may want to make this a back-to-back session with an oral examination to finish? I mean, as long as you’re having a comfortable, consensual and communicative time, who’s to say when this climax concludes?
